The automaker has already showed itself a standard-bearer when it comes to under-hood power and smarts to match future-facing aesthetics. Just take a look at Genesis G80 and G90 sedans. Their range of 3.3L and 3.8L V6 and 5.0L V8 engine options, complete with eight-speed automatic transmissions with SHIFTRONIC tech, are models of precision during acceleratory and braking maneuvers. But if the 2016 New York International and Chicago Auto Shows have anything to say about it, an even more fascinating future is fast approaching.
Genesis's Athletic Elegance design heralded the appearance of its New York Concept sedan at the former, and the offering's seamless, flowing build lines, showcased by a long hood, wheelbase and roofline giving over to a side profile as sleek as the sedan's large grille and slim 3-dimensional headlights, surely told us as much of its agility as did the vehicle's expansive dash-to-axle ratio. And its interior matched with progressive tech. New York's seat-located 21-inch control unit extended without break in design-line from the convex cluster, vehicle information easily viewable on it in crystal clarity by the driver. From front to back seats, the center console flows, offering touch and writing recognition functionality to passengers reclining in the rear.

The Vision G concept displayed by Genesis at the Chicago Auto Show took a different take on the intelligent future, with a purposefully minimalist design bespoken by a likewise long hood, but with high beltline and sloping cabin design coming to a head via seamlessly integrated lines at a large grill accented by slim headlights. Vision G's interior evinced the same elegance, luxuriously leather and genuine wood trims accented by a large, curved display that smoothly gives over to cluster and navigation readouts. And one gets a sense that genesis kept a touch of the human in the works, with Vision G's CCP (Central Control Point) input device making possible the operation of diverse vehicle functions with simple gestures from the driver. Head further behind remarkable style points, and one comes to the sedan's powerhouse 420-horsepower, 383-pound-foot-torque-capable 5.0L Tau V8 engine: its enhanced timing chain reassures of a ride as smooth as its design, keeping noise, vibration and harshness to a minimum.
While we await these curios, you're welcome to stop by and explore the future that is now with a test drive in a 2017 Genesis G80 sedan. Larry H.
